Whales

The South Coast is listed as one of the top 8 places listed inAustralian Travellerfor Whale Watching. Our coastline is unique for whale watching in winter, where you see travelling humpback whales and southern right whales as they rest and feed in the waters. During the Humpback migration, you can take an eco-cruise from Huskisson in Jervis Bay to see whales up close without rough seas. Jervis Bay is a huge marine park with 16 white sand beaches, penguins, dolphins, fur seals, and whales. Whales love to rest and play in the bay, making it a fantastic visitor experience. You can even tryswimming with the whales!

You can also see whales from the land! A winter stay in Shoalhaven means you might spot whales' tails slapping on your morning walk on many of our beaches and headlands. Try Warden Head in Ulladulla or Mollymook Headland. Watching a mum teach her baby whale how to breach and tail slap on their way back south is a special treat, all while relaxing and escaping the city.
